About

I am a landscape photographer based in Norway, working in medium format in the tradition of the great landscape photographers — slow, deliberate, and preoccupied with light.

My work concentrates on three subjects: the Arctic coast of Northern Norway, the high mountains of Jotunheimen, and clouds — an ongoing study of the sky as landscape, photographed at 100 megapixels, where a cumulonimbus reveals itself as architecture rather than shape.

I trained at Bilder Nordic School of Photography and photograph with the Hasselblad medium format system. The choice is not incidental: the work is made to be printed, and printed large.

When I am not photographing, I lead technology development for Norway's air ambulance service — search and rescue helicopters, and the systems that guide them. It is work that keeps me close to weather, to the coast, and to the sky. A certified paramedic by training, I have spent much of my life in the terrain I photograph, in all conditions. The two lives inform each other: both demand precision, patience, and respect for the atmosphere.
